Thank God Dave Dexter omitted this song from Capitol's Rubber Soul and, inadvertently, wound-up creating a very taught 10/10 album (albeit edited) by doing so...which, at the time, conversely forced then-middle period American Rock to take another giant developmental step itself (before it drastically would change again, a year-and-a-half-later, with the Summer of Love).
A couple of points:
1. This recording, for all intents and purposes, marked the end of George's Carl Perkins-mimicking/Gretsch-playing phase (entering 1966: after a brief fascination with the Epiphone Casino being the band's "new toy" forming the Revolver-era sound, he'd dive headfirst into the entire Indian thing lasting until the White Album; whereafter, he'd pretty much adopt playing a Strat in a slide technique).
2. THE VOICE shouting out in the background at approx. 1 : 29, heard from the left channel, IS *NOT* John "replying" to Ringo "I already told you WHY": IT IS PAUL (sounding like he's doing an ersatz American accent) proclaiming "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT" (presumably?, an "inside joke" referring-to Ringo's beat starting to slack off; much as it so infamously does halfway through "YOU WON'T SEE ME" --- which, indeed, seems to coincide with the tempo of "What Goes On" picking up pace at that moment forward).
Does the same, fucking medically deaf (criminal felon) moron and his brother (and his concubine)...ALL pretending to be "experts" ON EVERY SITE...just invent stuff out of their Amazon seller handbook-or-something? Most of them COULDN'T even *hear* Lennon doing harmony vocals on this track for the longest while (the forums used to make it seem like it was a Ringo "solo" song!). I mean, REALLY, GTFOH???
